Where you may find asbestos lagging
- Boiler rooms and plant rooms
- Pipe runs in basements, risers and ceiling voids
- Airing cupboards
- Older schools, hospitals and council housing
- Behind panels and cupboards, even in modernised homes
What to do if you suspect it
- Do not touch, cut or pick at the insulation
- Keep people away from the area
- Do not try to seal it with tape or paint unless you have been advised to
- Arrange a survey or a sample so you know what you have
If the lagging is damaged or crumbling, treat the situation as urgent.

How we do the work
Survey and plan
We identify the lagging, assess its condition and prepare a plan of work. Licensed jobs are notified to the HSE in advance.
Build the enclosure
An airtight enclosure, air locks and a negative pressure unit with HEPA filtration are set up around the pipework.
Provide decontamination
A decontamination unit gives operatives a controlled place to shower and change.
Remove carefully
Lagging is wetted and removed in controlled sections by trained, face-fitted operatives.
Clean and certify
Surfaces are cleaned, waste is double-bagged, and an independent analyst checks the area before it is reoccupied.
Asbestos waste is double-bagged, sealed and taken by a registered carrier to an authorised disposal site. You receive a waste consignment note as your legal record.
